I am not fancy.

I finally managed to make a decent sorbet today. I used fresh squeezed limes and strawberries and it actually turned into a sorbet-like dessert, instead of the giant inedible ice cube I made last time. I used the juicer properly (it took some time to realize the top part holds the lime in place and makes things really easy), and I worked out the freezing part – the mix has to be damn near freezing or my little ice cream maker doesn’t work. 90 degree room temperature doesn’t cut it – the mix has to be cold.

I tell you this so that I can make an interesting comparison. Look at the mess of a picture above and my poor instructions on how to make frozen water, and then go to Alwyn’s site, Tsokolate!, to see what a good foodie site looks like. If you can’t tell the difference, remember this: I’m in my underwear in this photo.

Magic Spray.

For those of you who can’t get enough of the World Cup, Slate has a good article about the magic spray that makes injured soccer players miraculously pop up and return to the game.
(Don’t tell me about the Italy/Australia game – I tivo’d it.)

Futurama is coming back!

Okay, this is just fantastic.

Christian Pirate Puppets

Something for everyone today. This is a video of singing Christian pirate puppets. If it had zombies in it, it would be my favorite movie of all time.

Fluffernutter!

Massachusetts is dealing with some controversy over whether it’s appropriate for their schools to serve peanut butter and marshmallow fluff sandwiches as an option every day for lunch. Some people apparently think this may not be such a great idea. (Note to my foreign readers: American kids are fat.) The good news is that cooler heads have prevailed, and there is now a motion in the state legislature to make fluffernutters the state sandwich.
