Cool.
It’s been too hot here in Los Angeles recently, so I decided to become temporarily handy around the house and put in a ceiling fan. But really, who cares? The interesting news is that my sister Heather had a baby on Tuesday. Go check out the pictures of baby Emmett Magyar. He’s way more interesting than my weather issues. Congratulations, Heather and Wes!

I am smart!
I have finally figured out how to play my iPod in my car. (Warning: this is a nerdy post – feel free to ignore it if you are not interested in my personal stories about gadgets.) It seems obvious that you should be able to do this, but for some reason it is either really difficult or expensive if you don’t have a car with a tape deck. (And no, the FM transmitters don’t really work in Los Angeles.) I have a Sony CD player, and I went through the trouble of pulling it out of my dashboard to see if I could connect the iPod, and I discovered that there are RCA jacks on the back of it but you can’t use them unless you’ve hooked up either a CD changer or XM radio to Sony’s proprietary unilink connector. I considered buying a CD changer, but they’re about $150, which is ridiculous when all I wanted was something to plug in just to enable the rear RCA jacks. Sony sells an adapter for $100, but i didn’t like the idea of paying them a hundred bucks for the privilege of using connectors that should have just worked in the first place. Anyway, I found the XM radio to Sony radio adapter at Best Buy for $50, and it does just enough to tell my radio that something’s plugged in to the back. While the radio is thinking that I’m not getting any XM radio reception, I’m playing my iPod and rocking out to all my music. Woot!

movie update: I put a bunch of fun little things up for the movie today, too.

More racing.
This is another picture of Los Alamitos Racetrack. Unfortunately, those are horses and not weiner dogs racing along the track.

Movie update: you can now get to the movie site by typing hvil.herrmania.com It’s a bit easier to remember if you want to go right there.

Weiner Dog Racing!
On Saturday, we saw weiner dogs the way they are meant to be seen – on the racetrack. They were spectacular! I’d love to tell you all about high velocity dachshunds burning up the horse track, but it’s really beyond description. Luckily, I brought my video camera.

Also, there should be a graphic at the bottom of the page that links to the HVIL production site. You can click on it to see what’s happening with the movie.

Greenscreen!

We did some greenscreen shooting for the movie this weekend, and it was really fun. I had done some testing beforehand, so I’m reasonably confident that I can composite everything together later. We did everything in my garage, so there was a good, indie vibe to all our effects shooting.

By the way, the Hopeless Virgins in Love site is right here. I plan to add a lot to it sometime soon. We’ve actually finished principal photography now. While there are still a few things to shoot, my focus is really shifting to editing at this point.
